UNITED ARE BACK HELLO HELLO!

Postby eric olthwaite » Thu Jul 23, 2020 8:04 pm

Right then, looking forward starts now.

1. Where, realistically, do you think we’ll finish next season?

2. What’s the best position you’d like to believe we could finish.

Obviously, we know nothing about summer signings or the look of next season. We don’t even really know that Bielsa will stay. Don’t edit your posts, but if you change your mind as things develop over the break, feel free to post again with revised numbers.

I’m starting with:

1. 16th
2. 10th

Bit early innit, any team news?
Early edit on account of only 20 teams there.
11th
9th

We'll be better than half of the teams there :thumbl:

13 (Shirley we're better than Steve fucking Bruce)

9

Fuck off.
You know, I'm sick of following my dreams, man. I'm just going to ask where they're going and hook up with 'em later.

13th
8th

We could easily finish 20th, of course, but I think lower mid table is more likely.

Assuming Bielsa stays

1. We will finish 8th
2. We could finish 6th with the right signings.

Without Bielsa, -10 places on each of the above.

We're gonna smash this division.
All the pressure is off, we sign Cavani and some wunderkind from S. America.

I had a quick look at the last ten seasons earlier today, something like about 60-65% of promoted clubs have survived their first season. I think we're better than the average promoted club, do our chances of should be a little better than average?

but, I mean, you can never tell. anyone who had watched both Norwich and the blunts last season would have told you that: a) they were at a very similar standard; but b) if you had to choose between the two you'd say that Norwich were better and probably better equipped to survive. that didn't end well.i honestly don't think you can predict all that well, certainly not based on something as simple as playing style or whatever. some squads just seem to take to a higher level.

ask me again in a few weeks' time, once recruitment seems to be largely complete.

oh, sorry, numbers.. I think it'll be tough. we're likely better than the average promotee but, well, our best attacking player from this season just gone is 35 years old; our best defender a loanee; we've already frittered away a fair bit of our PL cash on bonuses and shit signings; etc.

a) 16th
b) 8th.

Realistic 10th

Hopeful 5th

Both contingent on Bielsa staying.

I've seen us linked in various (and likely not very reliable) media to every Argentine that's breathed since the War Of The Confederation, so Lord knows who actually shows up on the squad.

As presently constituted?

Realistic - 14th (We're better than whomever comes up in the playoffs, West Brom, Brighton, Palace, probably West Ham and ... Sheffield United. How the fuck they're 8th with only 38 goals scored and a plus-two goal difference is beyond me and it's begging for a market correction.)
Hopeful - 9th

Contingent on Bielsa, of course, and having a striker who finishes better than Bamford.

Fuck knows. Top half/not in the relegation fight. Followed by lower mid table? (that 2nd season seems to be a problem and I don't see Bielsa having 2 goes at it, will be pissed off with the national media by Xmas.

12th
6th* I think it's unlikely but with current euphoria I wanted to say 4th because Bielsa is a genius. But... Bamford needs to score every big chance he gets to make that possible.

15th in the 2nd season.

Start strong, brief dalliance with something special before levelling off in 13th place

Best case scenario is we don’t level off and finish 7th

Pretty much this.

And we’ll both hammer and be hammered by one or more of the Big Guys.

Was in a meeting with my boss today, twat and prawn sandwich Arse fan and he was taking the piss about getting found out next year. I was about to say, ‘£50 says we finish above you’ and someone else came on the call and conversation moved on. I regret not saying it now. I agree that we will slap one of the big boys along the way. Prefer it to be Chelsea, but Arsenal would do.

I take great offence at the term 'big guys', We've all had a drink so I'm gonna leave it but I can't decide whether you calling us small. Diminutive. Little.

Tiny perhaps?

Midgets?

subservient?

untouchables?

Like I say let's just leave it,

I was out with a mate who’s a scum season ticket holder at Christmas when we were 11 points clear and he made the observation that most clubs get an easy ride in their first season as they don't really get taken seriously, he said there’s no danger of that happening with us and everyone will be out to put us in our place. Bring it fucking on I say.

We won't twat any of the top 8 from this year. We might beat one or two by the odd goal having 65% possession.
We should be capable of beating any in the bottom half, but will likely settle for more draws than we would like unless we get a better goal-scoring option.
I worry that another season will bring too much prolonged intensity for the players and we will need a larger squad than Bielsa will want.
