Чемпионат мира по футболу 2018

Postby the flying pig » Fri May 04, 2018 9:23 am

Thought we should have a new world cup thread when i noticed, at my local station this morning, that they were giving away copies of the newish panini album.

I have an exclusive prediction - England will not win it.

Bet 365 odds:

Brazil: 4/1
Germany: 9/2
France: 13/2
Spain: 6/1
Argentina: 9/1
Belgium: 11/1
England: 18/1
Portugal: 25/1
Uruguay: 33/1
Croatia: 33/1

Very generous odds on Spain imo. They've been untouchable in qualifying.
Might have a little flutter on that.
Brazil have no chance. Neymar's crocked.
France overpriced, decent team but flaky at the back and getting a bit long in the tooth.
Germany very strong as always.
Mirrors and copulation are abominable, since they both multiply the numbers of men.

Id say that Spain at 7.6 on Betfair represent best value. Arguably the best side (vs maybe Germany/ Brazil) but greater odds for some reason. Of the longer odds, Portugal at 30 usually over achieve and maybe Poland at 80 could have a run to the later stages. Belgium look strong - but not sure I see nice Mr Martinez as a winner.

I have a feeling that England may be capable of putting in a better performance than we have of late. However, my wider overview is that I don't really give much of a fuck.

Sometimes I wish I didn't give a fuck but I can't help it.

Surprised God's Own Country isn't in the mix.

Yeah, this. Gets me every time.
You know, I'm sick of following my dreams, man. I'm just going to ask where they're going and hook up with 'em later.

Traditionally, that's been my position for a long while. But, I dunno, things in the wider world have moved me to a position of just generally being embarrassed to be English / British of late, and I guess that rubs off on the sports teams.

silly me, the squads aren't out yet... they print the panini album months & months before they're announced [i'll never forget my anger at micky duxbury's inclusion in that set of mexico 86 themed marbles i bought from my local newsagent].

i guess we're talking:

current leeds - pontus likely in as sweden's first or second reserve CB. de bock probably had a chance of making it for belgium if he'd consistently played out of his skin starting in january, presumably making his chances now no better than any other Leeds squad member, none of whom are belgian. ideguchi might well go as a squad player?

ex leeds - i guess butland, danny rose, not too many others nowadays. Unless you count costa rica's rodney wallace. which I do.

I think he very recently said that he plans to stay retired from England.

Oh aye. I'd really like England to do well, it'd be great. And I only really mean very modestly 'well', e.g. a really noble, competent, loss in the quarters to someone good would be perfectly ok. Just not a repeat of the pathetic euros.

Just been checking whether a wedding I'm off to in June coincides with an England match. It doesn't, so I'll still go.
