Excellent point, well stated.

Money does seem to play an obscene role in US politics - not only the vast sums candidates must raise to stand a chance - but also the role of lobbying.

It’s interesting that the US doesn’t make the top 20 in the EIU democracy index - scoring lower than 8.0 which puts it in the “flawed democracy” category.

Any country which teaches its citizens national exceptionalism from an early age has a problem. The US is terrible for this; unfortunately the Brexiteering Empire lovin' half of the UK is just as bad.

Saw something which said that Fox News, Wikileaks, Matt Drudge and National Enquirer all haven’t tweeted for four or five days and therefore suggesting something significant is about to happen. I dunno, seems unlikely as any sort of key harbinger to me.

Apparently the suggestion is frozen by subpoena because Mueller

I don't visit these, just did for a couple as per above, and see your point.

Also, been suggested that the reason DT has been keeping a lower public profile since the midterms is that he knows Donny Jr is about to go down?

I came out “most like” Macron and “least like” Trump.

Not sure if that means they regard Macron as a “populist” (not sure I would) - but I guess the term itself isn’t that well defined.

There’s a graph showing the extent of populism and political leaning; Macron was mid range populist close to the center. I’d have thought you were further right.

I was most like Obama least like Trump.

Looking at it again I see the bottom two quarters - including Macron, Obama, and Merkel - are “non populist” whilst all the rest are in the top two “populist” quarters - which I guess makes sense.

Here’s my results - sounds like yours were similar - you should pay a few more visits to the politics threads to counter-balance the extremists and conspiracy theorists!

We had a meeting at work today and I was asked what steps I would take in the event of a fire. Apparently "fucking big ones" wasn't the right answer

The whole concept of ‘populism’ is a weird / feeble attempt to corral some kind of understanding of a generic political shift so that it can be easily packaged for consumption. Meh.

I asked the missus.
She doesn't seem to be too worried.
Go figure.
