Ambition should be made of sterner stuff. I imagine that we are home and hosed by March
The only thing we knew for sure about Henry Porter was that his name wasn't Henry Porter.

it's not a bad game at all. this season is absolutely superb in the championship.

one of the things they showed earlier was the table this time last year. iirc the second place team (cardiff) had 4 more points than us with 43, wolves were streets ahead. it wasn't so level, so all that shit about teams in second place at christmas ..... is pretty invalid.

Last season was a bit of a 1 off, did you see the stats on game with our number of points after 20 games? In a handful of seasons since 2000 there were no teams with as many. All but 1 of the 30 odd who have in the last 18 years have made the playoffs, over 20 have gone up.

I'll tell ya what,if we can beat Villa at their place we're the real deal...a draw, good result....a modest defeat, still a work in progress....a 4-1 thumping ala West Brom v v worrying.

yes and no. no because i don't think there is going to be a 'real deal' in the championship this year. we're very handy, but not quite black belt ninjas.

yes, because if we do, then the rest can fuck off.

to me, it's more about the team believing in bielsa. there was a clip on twitter of a goal earlier in the season and it was all made by the movement off the ball, it was fantastic team play where every pass ran right.

anyhow, it's sobering to see how wolves are struggling now.

(sorry i've had a few and think there may be a few logical gaps in that post)

You mean 12th place Wolves who just beat Chelsea and are 10 points away from the bottom three?

that's the one!

the same one that lost 3 of their last 5, winning only 1. fuck knows what my point was now, it briefly made sense to me last night, something about how we're not even as convincing as they were last year.

i blame the mason's gin.

You know, I'm sick of following my dreams, man. I'm just going to ask where they're going and hook up with 'em later.

Fixtures at the top end of the league until the end of this month:

Weekend of Dec 15th
Bolton v Leeds
Bristol V Norwich
Sheff U WBA
QPR v Boro
FL’s Derby v Forest

Dec 22
Villa v Leeds
Blackburn v Norwich
FL’s Derby v Bristol
Ipswich v Sheff U
Reading v Boro
Forest v QPR
Rotherham v WBA

Boxing Day
Leeds v Blackburn
Boro v Weds
Norwich v Forest
Sheff U v FL’s Derby
Swansea v Villa
WBA v Wigan

Dec 29
Leeds v Hull
Boro v Ipswich
Millwall v Forest
Norwich v FL’s Derby
Preston v Villa
Sheff U v Blackburn
WBA v Weds

So, Villa away and three winnables for us.
Sheff U/WBA and FL's Derby/Forest next weekend, both of which will be fun.
Norwich two easier fixtures but two harder at home [Forest followed by FL's Derby].
Boro have a decent run - four OK games - but then they just drew at home v Blackburn.
WBA have three winnables as well as Sheff U.

A good chance for us to open up an even bigger gap, even if we did lose at Villa.

Given the nature of the division I wouldn't be predicting one game let alone the next few weeks.

Agree. [Which is why I didn't.] Just pondering the opportunities, given the upcoming fixtures. For amusement.

You have to include Jan 1st. I have a particularly distinct memory of walking away from Upton Park, January 1st 1992 after we’d won 3-1, hearing Scum had lost to QPR and thinking, ‘Fuck, this is actually real. Game on.’

I’m holding on to the thought that this New Year’s Day (away to Forest) will provide a similar moment of revelation.

Jan 1
Forest v Leeds
Villa v QPR
Blackburn v WBA
Brentford v Norwich
FL’s Derby v Boro
Wigan v Sheff U

A win at any cost this weekend then. Got to fancy at least a couple of WBA, Derby, Villa (home to Stoke) and Boro to drop points. Norwich too, but not really arsed about them at this juncture.

Then on to Villa knowing a draw would do very nicely indeed.

As long as Roofe can single handedly grab us a point at Forest I'll be happy :thumbl:
