More fun stuff on scientific reticence and feedback loops.

Arctic permafrost melt currently at predicted 2090 levels

Glacier melting 100 times faster than predicted

Strap in, kids.

Fair play to Greta. What's she's doing is ballsy as fuck, and I'm loving all the right wing piss-boiling reaction to her.

i was in germany last week and the lidl next to the campsite i was in gave you credits for recycling your empties. there was an electronic tube in which you inserted said empties and it read if they were eligible for some credit. i'd got into the habit of bagging up my plastics and sticking my glass bottles into bottle banks when abroad so for some stupid reason was sceptical about doing this, but thought i out to give it a go. by the end of the holiday i was checking what i was buying to see if it had the lidl recycling logo and the start of my shop involved a trip to the electronic tube to get typically $3 off my shop. by doing this i cut down my other recycling by about 3/4.

i'm sure it won't be long before they introduce a similar scheme here, it works, so long as people are willing to change their habits.
increasing doubt, decreasing hope, even my imaginary friend went and changed his mind.

This is great: the concept of the Anthropocene epoch is vain bollocks, we're an ephemeral greasy blot on the surface of the planet.

If, in the final 7,000 years of their reign, dinosaurs became hyperintelligent, built a civilization, started asteroid mining, and did so for centuries before forgetting to carry the one on an orbital calculation, thereby sending that famous valedictory six-mile space rock hurtling senselessly toward the Earth themselves—it would be virtually impossible to tell. All we do know is that an asteroid did hit, and that the fossils in the millions of years afterward look very different than in the millions of years prior.
You know, I'm sick of following my dreams, man. I'm just going to ask where they're going and hook up with 'em later.

Can't find a suitable link just now, but there was a bloke on t'radio t'other day who has invented this nose-ring thing for cattle that cuts their emissions of methane by 50%. Apparently it's cow burps rather than farts that are the real problem - 90% of their harmful emissions come out of their gobs, not their arses.

Weeeellll, they contribute about 16% of emissions in the atmosphere, so we could cut that to 8% [notionally], which buys us more time... to invent our way out of all the other shit. Because you won't stop eating steak. :D

Just saw somebody suggest climate change is described as being likely to make it to hot to play golf, to motivate the right folks.
