Trialists, Transfers & Speculation

I mean there’s also a fair chance this is Ian Harte stoking interest in his client again, which he’s vaguely obligated to do given how short any career potentially is (especially given we don’t seem to know what happened to cause Clarke to collapse etc). He could just be angling for a(nother) new deal. There isn’t actually a lot for agents to do most of the time and it’s a bit like being a lawyer in the sense that sometimes you have to do shady stuff because it’s kind of your job.

There could be other crown jewels following him out of the door.

No guarantees that all the fees will be used on adequate replacments either.

With the talk of having to tighten our belts chances are we'll kick off this season with a weaker squad that finished last season.

Something for Bielsa to think about.

This is what I've said the Club should be doing, get cash in from other areas (Roofe and PJ being the 2x obvious ones). Roofe simply has to be sold if a new contract isnt agreed anyway. Keep the Crown Jewels for another season (KP and Clarke). Unfortunately as we all know, money talks and players will get their heads turned and I suspect more than Clarke will be targeted this summer.

This is exactly why i'm worried - there is no way Bielsa will stay if the squad is weaker overall and 2/3 of our best players are sold with shite coming in to replace them. He's, rightly, taking his time to get the assurances he needs before he considers committing. I dont think he will like what he is hearing the last couple of days.

If he stays I'll take that as a signal things behind the scenes are positive.

If he leaves....

he's on a free, but could he get fit enough for bielsa? he knew how to finish, has had a decent return in germany. he's said he'd love to come back in the past, if he could shift a few pounds and was willing to take a pay cut i think it could just work.

He'd be dead within half a day of Bielsa's training regime.

Absolutely no chance.

Berardi linked with a move to renew friendship with Cellino.

If Izzy Brown constantly pissed MB off by not addressing his weight and fitness seriously enough (allegedly), then I suspect Lasogga wouldn't get within an asses roar of the U23 bench.

He's a decent cover at CB. Especially if we are losing PJ as is likely.

What has he actually done.....?

What potential does he really have?

We sold arguably a better player in Cook for what £6m ...after 80 apps.

If scum are paying £15m for James then Spuds aren’t going anywhere near that figure for Clarke.

Jack Brooks was sold to Bournemouth for 11.5m aged 21 after 30 apps & 3 goals for Blunts

Jack Clarke has 22 apps & 2 goals for us when 3 years younger than Brooks. Scum & City were sniffing around him before the season even started.

Too right he is worth 15m in that market.

Daniel James was virtually unheard of when we nearly signed him and is also 3 years older than Clarke. If he is worth 15m then Clarke is at least that level.

i think clarke cld maybe be very good but he's imo miles off now. not sure he's a winger, that. he imo actually has the potential to be quite a big guy [he's at least 6'2" and slight currently but with age & PL standard dietary & strength coaching budgets he could be a 'unit'] & play as a skilfull centre forward, maybe at a really good level, but i'd certainly accept an eight figure bid for him, let someone else take the risk, and potentially reap the rewards if he trains on.

Ten figures?

Hope it's clear that we should definitely accept orders in the tens of billions. :elephant:

Assume you mean David Brooks?

Much better player
Automatic first team starter

Clarke has had a handful of decent games, a dodgy illness

And he doesn’t actually look like he could effectively play more than one half of football at even our level.

Comparison is bizarre imo

I am assuming we will replace him/Pontus.
