Yeah I agree. Education and targeting misinformation is surely a better approach. All you going to do by making it compulsory is further radicalise the anti-vaxxers across the continent.

I’m pro vax too, but on the fence for compulsory jabs.
If it could be made a criminal offence to peddle the bollocks those on the anti side are so fond of spewing, that’d maybe be a good enough start? Perhaps punishable by injection?
I like it. What is it?

I think you make them compulsory by making people deal with the risks of not having it. There's no way we want to get to 1910s USA where they were raiding houses and forcibly vaccinating (strangely only black) people in handcuffs.

So you make the vaccine passports required before you can e.g. go to football, cinema, gym, indoor work
You have a penalty payment for anyone hospitalised for COVID which can be used to boost those wards and mean others aren't having to forgo treatment for e.g. cancer because someone selfish is taking up your ICU bed
Want to travel? Need a vaccine before you can come back in, or a proof of a negative (your cost)

All this keeps coming back to: not being vaccinated is a selfish decision. You know better than the experts. If you get sick you're willing to take that risk. Well, you being wrong and getting sick impacts other people, so it's your responsibility to negate those risks.

This doesn't even cover the impacts on those vaccinated, who can still get the illness (with less painful side effects), have to isolate, potentially lose salary/work etc. etc.

This.

People have a right to choose not to follow medical advice but they also have to accept that their decision can have consequences.

I think you can educate people all you want but it's a waste of time if they are stupid enough to ignore everything on the basis of a random post on social media which seems to be the basis of anti vax people.

I don't think mandatory vaccination is the way though. I'm more of the opinion that no jab then no pub, no football, no cafe, no gig, no holiday etc

Yup.
My experience of Twiggs, the only vehement anti-vaxxer I know, is that no amount of logic and evidence will change his mind. He answers everything with total bullshit and lies.
His mind is closed. This is a 60 something man living in a country with very high levels of infection. Very sad.
You can't send the army round to pin him down,of course. .
Just reduce his ability to potentially infect others.
No footie for you , Billy.

The dozy pillock is inevitably going to get infected sooner or later and it breaks my heart.

Quite possible I don’t actually want to know the answer to this, but is it:

- Covid doesn’t really exist?
- The vaccine is some form of government control weapon?
- It’s no worse than flu?

Or some combination thereof?

It's complicated because the poor sap is utterly confused.
Basically, Covid is a type of flu that is not nearly as dangerous as is made out, the vaccines are dangerous because errr... because YES! and the whole thing is a scam to take control of sheeple because Nazis.

Very much this but I might also be tempted to go further and say no school for their kids (unless the kid is old enough then it's their own vaccine status which matters), no access to NHS services (emergency excluded, no-one should die over time lost checking they're vaccinated), no benefits.

I wouldn't go straight there though, first step would be the vaccine passports for pubs/events/shops/restaurants/public transport.

trouble is who's going to enforce these rules?

particularly given the arsey attitude of your typical antivaxxer. can you expect the lass at the cinema who rips your ticket to take on big angry baldy and his his gobby mrs? there's already a shortage of bus drivers being reported on the news this morning because they're sick of trying to enforce the mask rule.
increasing doubt, decreasing hope, even my imaginary friend went and changed his mind.

That's the problem.
What those advocating compulsory vaccination don't understand is that, like all stupid, when confronted with their idiocy they invariably double down.
They almost never change their minds because it's psychologically too painful.
They become martyrs in the cause of freedom.
So, somebody has to go round to their gaff and arrest them, because it's an offence, possibly a crime depending on the jusriprudence.
A civilian can't be asked to do it.
Coppers manhandling them into a van, filmed by all their fuckwit mates is exactly what they want.

Let the fuckers die off it that's what they prefer.
Unvaccinated and got Covid? Well it's just like flu innit.
That's a shame because the hospital is full of sick people. Get plenty of rest, drink loads of fluids and take paracetamol if it gets bad. Come back and see me if you're no better in a fortnight.
Next!

That's the reason I'd hit benefits, NHS access etc. Much easier to enforce "our records say you're a fucking idiot, payments stopped, you can reapply when you can prove its done".

Daughter is eligible for her 2nd dose now. Tried to book something, no options closer than 20 fucking miles away? WTF!!!

EDIT: We're going to try taking the letter to the local walk in centre on Saturday before booking some random location.

my daughter, a similar age iirc, had hers on sunday. we went to the centre on the edge of york where we've all been before. for the first time we were asked to wait 15 minutes at the top car park before driving down to the vaxxing area. it was cold on sunday but she was asked to wait outside for over 45 minutes before even getting into the tent. she was finally vaxxed an hour and 20 minutes after her appointment. i think the problem is that they're trying to do flu jabs as well as two different types of covid jabs at the same time. the nhs people have been pushed to breaking point again.

basically, take a thick coat when the time comes.

Agree. Germany has chosen to introduced new restrictions so only people who have been vaccinated or recently recovered from Covid will be allowed in restaurants, cinemas, leisure facilities and some shops. Same "2G" rules have been introduced in Germany for employees of the company I work for. Last week it was 3G and included a testing option. Support all of that. Their next step might be compulsory vaccines in Feb, that seems like a step too far.

Virtually full mask wearing on the train to That London yesterday and full compliance on the tube. I wonder whether the omicron thing has changed people a bit.

Yep. Here in Melbourne where unvaxxed are barred from many public places a young worker at city’s biggest bookshop was pushed on an escalator and knocked out

The anti having weekly protests here through the city calling for ‘freedom’. Small minority of F***heads the lot of them.
