We hosted him at Church of Sound a few weeks back and he was incredible.

Certainly was, a true one-off.
Bloody shame.

I think I saw him at the Wardrobe a few years back  If so he was fucking ace, not normally my musical taste but it was fantastic.

Thing that amazed me when I saw him was that he hardly touched the bloody drums.
I was always used to watching and playing with drummers who gave the buggers a good whacking, even jazz drummers like Art Blakey .
Tony Allen just kind of stroked them in passing.

the wrong side of 20 yrs ago i used to live more or less opposite the salvation army place just slightly further down lower clapton road. that was in the days when the 'murder mile' nickname was a little bit understated.

I read yesterday that he was recuperating with his "2000 pleasure ladies" so don't take him off your lists yet.

RIP Don Shula (90). Ex-coach of the Miami Dolphins. Was in charge for two Superbowl wins and the only perfect season in the NFL.

In terms of COS, we've never had to employ security and I can't remember even one gig being disrupted. I lived in Stamford Hill for a while and now Tottenham so I've been around Clapton for a while. Although born in West Yorkshire, my earliest memories are of the East end of London so I now consider this to be home. I've either lived, worked or frequented many of the places in London commonly regarded as being a bit sketchy (Dalston, Clapton, Peckham, Deptford, New Cross, Brixton etc) and suffice to say, I must have always arrived just after (or perhaps concurrently with) gentrification setting in. Behind my garden is Broadwater Estate, where PC Keith Blakelock was brutally killed during the 1985 riots, and often walk around there in the evenings. It's now very quiet and I've never seen any trouble. Mostly the residents are happy to chat with you. There is a vibrant music scene within the community that lives there and the occasional block parties are good fun (and seem sensibly Policed by the Met, which is a rarity). This is probably hubris/naivety but for whatever reason trouble never seems to find me.
