Not the "h" bit though, obviously.

I can't legislate for your decision to have a Peruvian midfield or for Germany's uncharacteristically slow start.

Peru looked good in the warm ups and were unbeaten in 14 - at least it was an innovative pick unlike tedious copycat Uruguay entries.

The plan was... that they’d keep it tight but still go out in the first round.

Shit plan, turns out.

Peru may not be a household name but FiFa having been ranked 19th, 11 & 10th in last 3 seasons? in the group with Auz, (the Syrian giant killers), not really abad pick at all. Peru were bright v Danes, if they had scored the peno who knows?

meanwhile picking Egypt was well just fkn dumb!

Yeah, I was trying to be a bit hipster/going with a daft hunch picking Colombia... From that pool a couple of others, notably England & Uruguay had significantly higher fifa rankings/bookies' odds & I would have picked one of them if there'd been serious cash involved.

Russia was a serious and imo good pick (the bookies loved them compared to other third pool teams) that seems to be paying off tolerably well, provided they don't get raped by someone decent in a later round.

Brazil also seemed eminently sensible & still may well pay off.

Fair enough. But I picked Uruguay first (ask Ponte) :thumbl: .

This is my usual line of thinking, it was a no brainer to make my bottom 16 team my defence but the change to give 2 points per game beyond the group makes it a bit more interesting, looking for the team who will go out on pens in the semis after a 0-0 draw having not conceded before then. Japan probably wasn't an inspired choice either.

I feel confident Poland won't score 3 in the next 10 minutes (TFP is the only one to pick them and they're his midfield) so here's the 2nd formal update a little early:

I missed that, as goals are the tiebreaker if initially thought you were offering Uruguay instead.

Fixed it for you, not that it makes any difference, after today's games you're still 2 points clear.

looks like the wheels might be falling off my little effort, though i'm still holding out some hope.

as for the fantasy game, i gave up on that as a bad job after the first round of games, very high maintenance with all the subs & transfers, also i realised that i'd played my triple captaincy chip on a senegal defender in the first round, this was a bitter pill to swallow.

Triple captain? I thought the captaincy boost simply auto selected your highest scoring player from the round as captain (provided they're in your XI) to save you the effort of guessing. Also, if you don't piss about with subs/captain changes and put all your eggs in a 1st XI basket, it'll auto sub if any of your XI don't play but your subs do.

How you cunts have the energy for these things I do not know.
You know, I'm sick of following my dreams, man. I'm just going to ask where they're going and hook up with 'em later.

oh, is that right? i didn't bother to check tbh. just maybe a senegal defender *was* my highest scoring player?

i very much did set out intending to piss about with subs [picking 15 likely starters, even though a few didn't] but when push came to shove couldn't bring myself to do it consistently after the first round.

Egypt have been a let down - was expecting a win today and maybe a draw from one of the others.
Oh well.

My selections were shrewd, but the teams let me down.

Still, it would have been worse if I’d picked the Egyptian defence. Anyone daft enough to do that must by now be seriously in deNile.

It wont last, riding England into the knock out rounds & Pontus Vikings was always Patriotic picks!
Belgium were the highest scorers coming in so that was hardly a difficult pick,
I will be surprised if Belgium are not in the last 4.
Shame about the way the group has gone, both will rest players so we wont really see either England or Belgium best starting line ups tested.
God forbid Sterling plays, scores & flatters to deceive, hopefully some one else steps up.

Bitter sweet for Vamps, 3 points for his Peruvian midfield today.
