Not sure you’re right re rugby, TFP. The event has only been held 8 times and there’s been four different winners - compared with 6 different winners in the last 12 FIFA tournaments (two of them only once). So similar ratio - which is remarkable given you’re comparing the “world game” with an event only played to a serious level in about ten countries. Cricket - a sport with less than 10 test nations in most world cups - boasts 6 winners in 11 tournaments. Whichever way you look at it, the concentration of FIFA success in those big four countries in a game played seriously by so many countries is remarkable.

Interesting TFP. There are no human questions that cannot be answered by the science of economics.

Slight change of tact, I'm going to continually update the opening post of the thread with the latest table as and when I get round to it, while I'm at home watching games that could be game by game. I'll just put the main end of round updates further down to keep the thread on page 1.

Disappointing for those with Germany as their seeded team (11 of you) though the 3 with them in defence probably can't complain too much having only conceded 1.

First proper update then after the full first round of games. Sunshine Whites leads the way with 9 and only 2 ballers have managed to find their way to -ve figures. Clearly we all needed a Russian attack, who knew!

Those of us level on points are being ordered based on projected tournament goals at current scoring rate (2.38 gpg = 152 goals in the whole thing).

Twas a bold pick, Probably not a good time to inform Egypt haven't won a game since October, Salah is not fully fit, and dont recall they have ever won a WC tournament game.

Goal for Salah, £50 for metalsmurf, nice.

Fair enough that Rhys is languishing near the bottom, but you have to question the credibility of a competition in which adept predictioners like TFP, SimonB, Vampire abd Ballgirl are with him in the bottom five.

I can't legislate for your decision to have a Peruvian midfield or for Germany's uncharacteristically slow start.

Many have had a bit of Welswhite in 'em, I'd say.
