The one where he's on a 2 year deal, has never played at EPL level and the club he's contracted to are strong enough to stand by what they believe.

Plus, they won't sell to relegation rivals.

He can hand a transfer request in if badly advised and they will either sell him elsewhere for £30m+ or stick him in the 23s till Xmas.

Big issues if Bielsa has insisted on White as a signing as a condition of staying

Yeah, but Bielsa is a fraud.[/quote]

As always, I want what's best for the club.

I suspect that if Bielsa leaves, any new manager would want 6 or 7 new signings at a considerable cost.

Bielsa has a group of players invested in him and who believe in him.

The best chance the club have got of staying up, IMO is to keep the current management team and squad in place, selectively added to with more quality.

I think that's best for the club commercially too.

As ever, Bielsas reputation is not even remotely matched by his achievements.

I still don't see it, he can't be in their long term plans if he rejects a new deal. While he's on low wages is technically easy to dive him in the U23s and make an example of him but £25m is a lot to turn down to stick to such principles. If he asks to go he'll go. Though obviously he might be perfectly happy to play for them.

2 years is the new 1 year in terms of contract renewals to protect transfer values. It's not over yet, they're still just setting a price. However, I do think they will want to let it go close to the deadline in October in the hope Liverpool/Chelsea enter the bidding and take the price well out of our range. Absolute minimum will involve them having a closer look in preseason. As we know, we can't hang around until then when we've only got Cooper.

The owner of Brighton is worth £1.7bn, they have no real financial pressure.

I'm sure White will want to play EPL with whoever he can do. I don't see him handing in a request and even if he does they won't sell him to us.

I suspect that Brighton will play him at the start of the season in the hope he proves himself at the level, maybe makes an England squad and then they could consider selling him in the Jan transfer window for £50m+

..or a big club comes in now at 35m + and they sell him.

At the prices quoted we shouldn't even be bidding. He came here, did a job, now it's farewell and thanks for all the fish.

Soton just signed a really good CB for £11m, that's where we should be looking.

In all honesty we should not have shifted from the 18m first bid. He was a class act last season but we are going to see that 70% possession is not obtainable and even if we do get the lions share, teams will be setting far better traps than championship clubs could ever muster..........a different type of defending is going to be needed in a lot of games this season.

I really hope that White is not this season's Vydra or James. Orta must have other targets that Bielsa would accept? Ultimately Brighton are under no obligation to sell him to anyone so we need to move on with other targets.

Surely not? At least not if you think Bielsa is a fraud?

I don’t think Bielsa would make demands like that, he might demand we do all we can to get White, but he knows we can’t force another team to sell to us.

Agree with all that, I do think we’ll go higher, the difference between 18-25m in the EPL is minuscule these days, but I’d rather we looked elsewhere if Brighton aren’t interested. Look what Bielsa has done with Coops, Dallas and Berardi, he seems to have a Midas touch with defenders, just let him pick a couple he thinks can do the job. It’ll be interesting to see how White does in a Brighton team that’s fighting for points at the bottom of the EPL, we might get the lad for 10m in January ....

He claims he left Lazio because the Serie A club had yet to sign the players he wanted by the deadline he set, despite there being eight weeks to run in the transfer window

Cooper Dallas and Berra are unproven at the level. He did a job getting them to perform in the league below.

I'm not sure Aguero, Mane at al are losing sleep over facing any of them.

Cooper to get sent off multiple times next year is a great bet.

What happens if we are below Brighton in January?

We’ve seen how Bielsa works, he hasn’t made any unreasonable demands since he arrived at the club, as long as he believes the club are doing their best to keep the promises he’ll stay. Might be different if he really believe’s White is a 30m player, and he could forgo other signings to get him, but if that’s true then we will probably bid 30m. Doesn’t mean Brighton will sell. Try remember that Bielsa's already been at the club for longer than he’s managed any other club, we ain’t Lazio, he clearly likes and trusts Orta etc.

I’m definitely concerned about how our defence will cope with the top clubs in the EPL, even with White, which is why Is rather we looked elsewhere than spent our entire budget on him, but that wasn’t my point. Marcelo has improved every player in our squad, the ones he didn’t think he could work with he got rid of. I trust him to improve any player he brings in, that’s why I’m too not concerned about White, I am concerned that we will fuck around trying to buy White leaving Bielsa with no time to work with players we do sign before the season starts.

What evidence do you have that Mohammed Salisu is "really good"? Southampton have described him as having a great amount of potential, which isn't the same as being "really good". I'm not sure we can afford to purchase a CB with potential.

And yet we've bid £25m for just that!

Salisu has 32 appearances at the top level and is only 21

White could be out of his depth in the PL

Worth pointing out that Bielsa was involved in bringing in the likes of

Casilla
JKA
Baker
Brown

So agree he's improved some players but like any human he makes mistakes.

Some one like Otamendi could be available for under £10m from City, would seem an interesting option.

Look at Yeboah. Going mental and posting furiously at the first sign of any adversity* involving the club. (*Perceived in his contrarian universe.)

Based on all of these breathless, I'm-so-excited-the-sky-might-be-falling-posts? You strike me as the premature ejaculation type.

The bull in the china shop's panic button punching aside, I hope we get Ben White. But if we don't? Life goes on to the next target.

I remember similar hang-wringing over Jansson last summer. No one knew who Ben White was yet. We'll be fine.
