Weren't we rumoured to be looking at a loan deal for Denayer? Surely this guy is a better option than Pennington, and we're a better option than the great unwashed.

European football on the agenda with The Bouys, and a team playing for trophies with a proven winning mentality.

Before last Sunday I would have thought Ashley Williams for a season was a better option than Pennington, but I guess lower wages, youthful energy if he can stay fit & familiarity with the squad give Pennington the edge?
Yes its far too early but considering what El Loco has down with Coops/ Bacardi/ KP/ & Klit maybe he could develop Pennington who must be, like Barker, close to make or break with the parent club after they have invested a lot of time & numerous contract extensions?

Bit on transfers with Kinnear.

Funny situation at Leeds. Modern football seems to have moved away from having the manager as the leader of the club. But it's very much on the agenda with bielsa at Leeds.

Interesting kinnear talks about improving the contracts of existing players. That goes against the general idea on here that last year's renewals were all on reduced terms.

Whos suggested the new deals were on refuced terms? Ive assumed the opposite - but prayed Okane was on reduced terms :) Guess not though, think he was quiet in demand last summer.

So, what's the thinking? Caulker or Pennington, Norwood and another Striker in? Or will we wait and do a couple more loan deals after 5p.m. tomorrow?

I think any deal before the deadline will be permanent. Loans will wait, can only realistically get 2 more (match day squad and all that).

Don’t think we’ll sign anyone this week, we’ll get a couple of loans in after the window closes and EPL teams have finalized their squads.

no coincidence gaps in squad numbers indicate the positions where we need permanent signings.
No 9 filled but no one under illusions its defensive options are need, and not a powder puff loan, its seasoned Flint/ Bartley type. Does not have to be glamorous, just the Championship equivalent of a Nayls & Paddy type combination, Pontus & Coops can do a job but wont last all season, we need 3rd quality player who will push Cooper.
Massive gap left with RV gone & Forshaw AGAIN injuryed

Might be a smoke screen, but I doubt we'll see any permanent signings today, we can't afford the class of player we need other than on loan. Unless there's a drastic change in the economics of football we all need to to used seeing a lot of loans in our squad until we get back to the EPL.

Speaking on the Talking Shutt podcast earlier this week, managing director Angus Kinnear indicated that any additional signing would be temporary, saying: “It’s more likely to be a loan than it is a permanent purchase.

“Marcelo is spending a lot of time with Victor (Orta), Andrea and I discussing where are the gaps, where’s the strength, where can he move people across the backline. If we’re going to strengthen with one or two additions before the end of August, what are the positions where you get the most impact for money?”

Caulker would be ideal knowing the player he WAS. No idea if hes been able to get his head straight to show the potential to get back there.
Agree we need someone more battle hardened than a young Prem loanee though.

Dunno, If that 'young Prem loanee' was Denayer, he's been battle hardened by a season in the Turkish top flight. I'd take that.

Yeah, I'd have him over Pennington and Caulker any day. Pennington is too lightweight and soft for this league as weve seen, and Caulker has been brutal for a few years now, even at Championship level - a good couple of months in a poor SPL doesnt make him good again over night. He'd be a risk as cover even on loan imo.

this is worth a watch on the process of purchasing players and disentangling the club's statements about transfers...
increasing doubt, decreasing hope, even my imaginary friend went and changed his mind.

Bielsa presser just now - no news on transfers in or out. Dallas is out for a couple of weeks injured, otherwise he expects to play the same team again at Derby. Pontus getting closer to starting level fitness. Confused why we want to know about his bucket.

Funds should be available;
money in for RV was a bonus to coffers although
Yep we always seem to loose a top player so revenue maybe expected, (although until window shuts we still have not 100% retained Pontus & Saiz)
Massive running cost savings as 15 players cut, gone, loaned or assumed going.
Bamford at say 7m was less than 11M allegedly agreed for Vydra.
No GK fee - Blackman U23 championship starter level, no fee, half wages of the amount that should have been budget for a premiership starter level keeper e.g. Stockdale /Gunn
Hoping we get CH / def midfielder and FFS less chatter about wingers, not the crucial priority.

Caulker at 1.5M, still only 26, is worth a punt, after the train wreck of self destruction he has survived, if the poor fucker can get through, and turn in good season, at Dundee he must be back on track! When interviewed he expressed for respect for coaches who were honest, mentored & tried to help him e.g. Malky M & Holloway. There is a hell of rough diamond of player
there who maybe under El Loco, living in bungalow at TA, could be polished into a sparkling rock

Chelsea's loan business isn't a charity. Blackman will have cost at least 200k as a loan fee probably more.
