Not the best game, but can you imagine the shitstorm in the men's equivalent if that first Danish goal had been allowed to stand. The Fraukrauts took it with extraordinary dignity.
Goalkeeping has to improve if the aim is to catch the world's imagination.
Danes gifted it away in first half cheaply from the backline and gifted a goal to the Fraukrauts, but when they got going in the second half they were the better side. I liked that Nadine or Nadeen or whomever. Bit gangly when she runs, but great close control, good vision and makes terrific runs. Her father was executed by the Taliban. Clare Balding told me that and she's descended from the English aristocracy so it must be true.
The Fraukrauts were stodgy. They played with the usual German intelligence but didn't have the ability to execute the good decisions.
Wide open indeed, though that's not a gentlemanly way to talk about ladies. Impossible to call: Spanish great technique but dodgy in central defence. England tough and have powerful and skilful players but give possession away too easily. (They must be English.) I fancy the French though I've only watched them once; technically good and some dangerous players, particularly wide. Bit flimsy in the central defence and lack bone-crushing stupid power, I mean bravery, in attack. Dutch might edge it with home support. Austria dark horses.
Leeds United is ruining my life.
