More than "somewhat" depressing - but rumours of "death" are much exaggerated.
There will be no end to the problems afflicting mankind until economists become rulers, or, by some miracle, rulers become economists.

Schiaparelli seems to be in trouble - no signal after touchdown on Mars. Or 'crumple', as might now be more accurate.*

The fact that we are not taking care of the planet, our children will pay the consequences. With football it will be the same because we're destroying football and in the future we'll see the negative effects. Those who have power are responsible for it.

What is it they say? We know more about what's going on on the edges of our solar system than we do at the depths of the ocean. Incredible really.

Where to put this? Here's as good as anywhere.

Mirrors and copulation are abominable, since they both multiply the numbers of men.

NASA announce a sun 40 light years away (pretty much next door, that) with 7 Earth size planets, and ....wait for it..... THREE of them are in the habitable zone, capable of bearing surface water!
Gulp!

They have probably polluted their surface water as badly as we have.
Then again, if their rocks are from different compounds then the oceans might not be salt water.

I believe the usual quoted stat is that there are likely to be 10*25 planets in the observable universe and a 1 in 10*100 probability of any one planet supporting life. Make of that what you will.

Given you're typing that, probably better to quote that second stat as "ANOTHER PLANET supporting life" .

It always annoys me because it changes the message of the stat, and your confidence in it, hugely.
