Not particularly clued-up on his diagnosis and how it changed, but if they said (as they did) that it was the rarer operable form, they will have given him a prognosis based on their experience with other patients globally. In other words they should know if there's a risk he's got some cells in a lymph node etc.
So I'm very much hopeful that he's dodged the bullet with typical style
Five year survival is a big milestone in cancer therapy. If he makes it there, he should be golden.
