Always remember Frankie Boyle's joke - if they wanted to do something fitting to remember her by, they should have held a gangbang in a minefield

Lee Peltier joining Boro. Warnock putting the band back together? Michael Brown is probably dusting off his boots. And yes, this is the correct thread.

Nice little earner for Colin.

Proving once again what a daft twat she is

Far-right British commentator Katie Hopkins to be deported after boasting about undermining COVID-19 quarantine

Reading between the lines I guess NSW didn't have a problem with her racist anti-feminist views, it was the lamp post licking that was too extreme for Australians ....

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that this guy voted for Brexit.

So much stupid to process here. I mean, if he wanted to, he could have pulled the barrier back and wheeled his bike through rather than lift it over. Then at 10s he briefly attempts to get back on his bike to cycle the ten yards across the track rather than walk it. Such a shame it didn't at least clip him.

I spent hours of my life waiting at that level crossing before they put the footbridge in, so I've got some sympathy for him.

Looks familiar to me. Where is it?

Have to say that (from someone with more knowledge about the vagaries of block signalling than is useful) some situations are dumb. Once a train enters a block the barrier has to go down, but you can get quiet rural lines where the blocks are massive with a station at one end, so the train can be more than a mile away travelling at slow line speed and you still have to wait.

a bit of a shame that he didn't try kicking/punching it or similar as it passed him.

North Sheen Station. Your mate’s thoughts would explain why my ‘record’ is waiting while 7 trains went past.

Idle by-the-by, but people have been trying to get rid of block signalling for years. The theory of the digital future of rail is that you give up on fixed sections of track with one train in them, and move to a moving block around each train, which knows where other trains are, speeds and braking distances etc. You could double the capacity of existing networks in a flash but the trouble is that no one can figure out how to make it work safely other than on very contained slow speed systems like light tram networks.

Spunking millions on a feasibility study based on unreachable fantasy was one of the less publicised reasons why Railtrack - the privatised predecessor to Network Rail - went bust.

I do wonder what the future holds for trains in the UK. They are just completely unaffordable on the whole unless you can plan 3 months in advance. Its quite easy to go on the train to Leeds games for me apart from it costs about 70 quid more than just driving. These high speed links are going to have some interest pricing. Trains near me are often very empty and the response to that is to spend money on them so people will want to go on them whilst also putting prices up.

Just need subsidy, basically. There's no better alternative.

Is that what it is? Train line goes right through the middle of town round my way and the barriers on one of the main arterial roads come down a good 2 minutes before anything emerges (and of course there’s always more than one), causing the most almighty congestion around the centre. On the flip side a couple of miles down the road there’s barriers that come down when the train is no more than a 100m away and flip back up as the arse end has barely passed over the crossing. Why can’t they all be like that one :rambo:

You know, I'm sick of following my dreams, man. I'm just going to ask where they're going and hook up with 'em later.
