Line of Duty.
I always knew there was something not quite right about it.
Not the writing, which is good
Not the acting, which is wooden at times, but that's not the problem. ....
Couldn't put my finger on it, but there's just this amateurish feel about it. Compared to American shows it just feels a bit rubbish.
What could it be?
It's the editing. Unbelievably poor.
Watch any 5 minute section and concentrate on the editing.
There's a cut every couple of seconds, usually for no reason. It doesn't add to the tension or push the story forward. A pointless shift in the point of view. Sometimes they just cut away to another pov and back every 3-4 seconds when nothing is changing. Other times, with the interrogation of Hastings ( the key scene in the whole bloody show ffs) they totally destroy the tension by cutting away to a character who is purely secondary.
Just destroys the flow.
Mirrors and copulation are abominable, since they both multiply the numbers of men.
