The obvious question is where you're buying it from, and who has flashed the ROM if it's sourced from China or HK. Years ago I bought the wife a cheap one, hoping I wouldn't, but ending up having to, navigate Android menus in Chinese and edit the registry to allow YouTube and other subversive western imperialist pigdog websites.

So, where's it from, and would a fire tab be as good*, much as I hate to send business towards tax dodging cunts.

*edit I realise you had your eyes on a 10"er, and she might be disappointed with something slightly smaller, but I imagine she'll be familiar with the adjustment to her expectations.

Andymac-47 wrote:My problem is a tad simpler, I need a decent tablet for Mrs Andymac for Xmas. She does a bit of reading but she loves browsing internet finding different ways to empty my bank account. I have £100 budget, I need a 10" screen, and a decent size memory. I have looked at the below, but the reviews are mixed.

Amazon's HD fire 10 will likely be below £100 on and around 'black Friday', near enough as good as you'll get for the price.

Cheers all, just bought the Acer 10 incher from Argos, 16GB. £99. Can't go wrong Shirley? Especially with the 10 incher, hope she like it....

On a very similar theme, several years back the wife clubbed together with her sisters and bought her ma an iPad which is now getting a bit long in the tooth. We're going to replace it this year, but iPads are just silly money. She basically just uses it for browsing, emailing and photo storage and doesn't back up to another device.

We're also clearly less organised than Andy because we've missed the whole Black Friday thing. A few queries:

- Galaxy tab vs Amazon Fire: any thoughts? Reviews seem to suggest that Galaxy is the one on a c.£150 budget.
- We'll need to help her migrate photos from the iPad. Best to use some sort of cloud setup?
- For an old dear who's losing the plot a bit but has more or less got used to her iPad, would converting to Android be fairly easy?

Fuck me, the school holidays can't end soon enough...

Anyone know how to block wifi on Sky? Namely, to undercut the kids phone/PS addictions... Seems like a time restriction is better, but that I might have to do it through each device's IP address?
I like it. What is it?

Bit of a cheeky request this, has anyone got a Microsoft Office Product Key that I can use?

Or give me step be step (Janet & John style) instructions of how to shift the one installed on my old laptop to my new one?

I've understood you can trust reviews like those? A lot of them are sponsored? Can't find the site I read a while ago but this reddit post tries to explain it.

Generally I'd question any review that puts the big three at the top. I use https://integrity.st/english/ which is run by the folks who started internet provider Bahnhof in Sweden. They also setup https://5july.org - but I don't know if you can use their service outside Sweden. Suppose I could use my account for him since it allows 10 devices- but I'd have though there would be similar services in the UK?

Blimey - where you been?
People have been throwing that one at me for ages....ah, perhaps you don't make as many errors as me, that would explain it.

I think someone needs to update a certificate or something.

Anyone recommend a converter to get an iTunes playlist into Android? Seen a few around but they all look equally sketchy. Just bought a new mp3 player and I can't face the hell of constructing album lists again.
