I'm curious about this.

From an outsider's perspective:

- The Tories hate getting into any sort of dialogue with local government.
- Eric Pickles is very much on the anti-authoritarian right wing of the Conservative Party.
- The mayor appears to have been elected on some sort of ostensibly right-wing anti PC ticket.

Yet Pickles thinks he's such a hopeless nutjob he's sent people up there to slap him down.

So, for anybody who lives around that way, what's really occurring?
