Not entirely sure how SFW this’ll turn out, but at least we know where it all began...

Seems about as good a place as any for this:

http://www.medievalsoldier.org/dbsearch/

This gives a record of soldiers serving during the 100 years war.

I once researched my family back 5 generations. With the exception of that part of my family which comes from France almost all of my ancestors up to 5 generations back came from Warwickshire, Gloucestershire or Oxfordshire.

Having used the above search I found mention of soldiers with my name & that of both my paternal and maternal grandmothers. This you may expect, however the search engine gives which Captain they served under and one of them served directly under the Earl of Gloucester and an other under the Earl of Shrewsbury. Given soldiers were raised within the manors held then they could be ancestors. Probably a coincidence but with a look for anyone interested in genealogy.

Syd Brenner on being scooped. Last line is typically direct. World doesn't need more politicians from economics, but from the non-dismal sciences. The real sciences.

Wasn’t sure where to put this. Could have easily gone in the “absolute cunts” thread.

All I know is that as far as Football Manager is concerned? Cocaine is a helluva drug.

I give you ... Neil Warnock managing Barca.

Great piece, if only we'd backed him in the transfer market :D

We are interviewing for new employees and in one position are down to two candidates, one of whom is called Fanni.

Already one of my colleagues has written that he 'certainly prefers Fanni'

Struggling to think of a response which doesn't cross a line here.

Is the other one called Dick?

No, fortunately. He's plain old John Thomas.
