As it stands Ayling leaves Leeds United in 4 months. Fuck me we are stupid sometimes. Get the lad a new contract. As Johnny Cooper has tweeted he’s pulling some incredible stats

He’s far superior to Kristiansen who is simply not good enough

Earned a couple years, Shirley

XG poor but we lost two players in 20 minutes. Thought you’d be more positive Phil

For those who can't read tweets directly on here: xG: Man Utd (2.29) 2-2 (0.68) Leeds
Sure didn't seem that way. We were in their box quite a bit.

Couldn't agree more. Plus, he's a great dude. Ayling might be my favorite of all of the promotion squad.

We didn't create a lot of chances though, and ouf second was a deflected own goal. The only real chance I can remember was Struijk's back post "header"

I'm not negative, it's a great point. It was more surprise how low the xG was, the half time BBC radio Leeds summary (first thing I heard) seemed to cover multiple chances for us.

Sounds obvious but If you’re one up early you’re more likely to have less shots as the game (and the lead) goes on. More so if you’re the underdog.

Particularly with Kristensen seemingly more of a Championship level player, Ayling is our best full back and since his recall has been performing well. He actually gives some width too ! Add in his leadership qualities and positive effect in the squad, I think it’s very foolish he hasn’t already been given a new two year deal. Maybe due to his age we’ve only offered him a one year deal and Bill’s said no thanks. Not sure either that Drameh will make it at PL level.

I think the issue must be that XG deals with shots whereas Leeds’ threat manifested in us bearing down on goal multiple times but picking the wrong option at the end. It’s the old eye test rebuke when it comes to XG, anyone watching would have said Leeds were bang in it and a draw was a more than fair result.

I don't think Jesse's idea of what a fullback should look like was/is anywhere near the same as mine. He goes for bulk; I prefer the ability to get up and down at speed, relentlessly, allied to the positional sense that tells a player where he should be at any given time. Rasmus isn't bad on the latter when it comes to defensive duties but he's nowhere near quick enough to play the modern position well enough at Premier level.
Drameh has the physique but not yet sure if he's ever going to blossom. If we were in the Championship, he'd be our regular right back - which is why he needs the loan experience.
Wöber is never a fullback: he's a good centre half, Cooper's replacement and possible captain [though Adams is favourite for that?]
Firpo needs booting out in the summer. [Didn't think he was terrible last night, by any means, but he's just not the standard.]

Ayling has given us breathing space on one side until the end of the season - barring injury - but we need two top class fullbacks, no question.

yeah, i think that's right re: shots. e.g. if a player rounds the keeper, runs to the goal-line with the ball but slips over inches out without getting a shot in, that's a flat 0 XG. same for an instance where an attacker gets to the byline say near the edge of the box and drills the ball across goal, another attacker comes within inches of making contact to tap in but doesn't quite, that's 0 XG. attacker gets clattered in the box but the ref doesn't give a 50:50 penalty shout, again 0 XG.

Putting your hands behind your back and hoping any attempted cross hits your legs or torso does not quite cut it for me.
He can't make a fair tackle and he's often caught dangerously out of position.

When he does get forward he often just gets in the way of others.
I was screaming {Get back you dozy cunt} at the telly when he was taking our throw-ins deep in their half.

I dread anyone attacking down our right hand side. They'll either beat him or get in a cross.
If Dallas gets back this season Firpo will be benched, at best.

A 5/10 player.

Yeah Firpo is done. Rashford’s goal was an incredible leap and header but I felt Firpo’s attempts at, first, preventing the ball to get to the winger and then, second, stopping the cross were pretty poor.

I expect Kristensen had got a few months of riding the pine ahead of him. Ayling has clearly bucked his ideas up and re-found his old mojo. The fact Kristensen didn’t get on for the last 15 minutes when Ayling looked to be running on an empty battery says it all. Of course, big asterisk next to all of this with a new manager imminent.

did i imagine it or did someone on here mention the protection that gnonto gets, or doesn't get, from refs? seems to me that he's at least once getting absolutely wiped out, a really nasty full bodyweight tackle with contact from studs, most games, with him quite often seeming at least a little sore/subdued afterwards. i really don't think that sort of treatment lends itself to a very long career at the top level. it's imo a concern.

Watched the match on Radio Leeds yesterday, so only saw the highlights this morning. No way Firpo would have won the ball leading to our first goal as accomplished by Pascal, as Firpo's never on the front foot wi-out ball.

Saw the Sky highlights just now. I didn't see the first half last night. Crikey, we got let off a couple of times. Especially Wober's headed clearance off the line. We've still got some defensive issues, then.

He's already heading the way of Raph. Team's are targetting him and he seems to need a defender to trip him up with a chainsaw before a ref will reach for a yellow. If Raph had stayed I genuinely believe his career would've been shortened. With the treatment Gnonto is getting coupled with his young age I'm already fearing the same for him.
