2022 Death Pool Party: Rules and Chat Thread

Post by eric olthwaite »

Here we go again, drain-circlers.

The thread for rules, chat and for Dirty to paste up every reported death on the planet. New rule 11, but it's just an idle experiment, don't feel obliged.

1. Name THIRTEEN people on the other thread, not below.

2. In order for you to score, they have to be both famous and to die during 2022. Notice of death has to be published by one of the following UK-based sources: BBC; The Times (of London); The Guardian; The Financial Times; The Daily Telegraph; The Independent.

3. You may NOT pick anyone who has been sentenced to death. If you're lucky enough that one of your picks is sentenced to death after close of polling on Jan 1st, that's fine. Similarly, you may not pick anyone who has given notice of their intent to voluntarily euthanise themselves before Dec 31st. Regular suicide without notice still scores points.

4. Upon the death of the chosen individual, you score 120 minus the age of the celebrity at death.

5. You may nominate one of your celebs as your Joker. Death of your Joker scores you an extra 35 bonus points.

6. If any of your dead celebs are a unique pick - ie you have them and no-one else does - you get 35 bonus points.

7. 50 bonus points for murder, manslaughter, 'misadventure', suicide or expiry during a sexual act.

8. 50 bonus points for the first and last stiffs of the year - for each successful competitor, not dead celeb.

9. No more than five of your picks may have been recorded anywhere publicly as having cancer before Dec 31st 2020.

10. You may not pick anyone who would not be famous if they were not terminally ill.

11. You may choose to pick a secondary list provided that it is properly themed ie more niche than 'British men' or whatever. I'd accept South American footballers, female Belgians etc. No more than three shared victims between your first and second lists. Given the added difficulty, top themed list scorer at the year's end gets 75 bonus points

Get your predictions up before midnight Dec 31st.

Last year’s picks.

Eric, to clarify; no jokers in the themed lists then?
You know, I'm sick of following my dreams, man. I'm just going to ask where they're going and hook up with 'em later.

I hadn’t thought about it, but it’s a straight second entry with a twist, so I guess rules 1-10 just carry over. Jokers allowed.

E2A: first and last bonus applies across all lists - ie only one scorer, regardless of the type of list they appear in.

Cheers, edited to add one.
PTBL will need to pick one too, but if he doesn't get to it I'm happy for you to ignore mine and others also.

Cheers, Joker set; as for the goal hangingness of the themed list - I think I will struggle to get decent obits/news for a lot of them...

Rob Burrow is a legitimate pick, but imo ought to be accompanied by tossing a few quid in the direction of his appeal.

I have the same problem with the dissidentskis - half of the fuckers are in hiding, I don't even know if MK is still puffing

Wife and I are laughing thinking of her staff saying "Betty, y'know you're 100 years old, maybe don't push it on this one, huh?"

Happy to go with that. I always throw money in when Sinfield does one of his ridiculous running challenges too.

Ooh, this would be a good one. Don't know if anyone has him.
The Brazilian president, Jair Bolsonaro, has been taken to hospital with an intestinal blockage but is in a stable condition, according to the hospital.
We can correctly state that he's full of shit, amirite?

He'll be fine I reckon. They can just keep working around the blockages surgically, connecting above and below, or just cut out the middleman and sew his lips directly to his arse.
