Oh God, here we go again

I’ve come across ginnel or snicket in W Yorks, gennel with a soft g in S Yorks and of course twitten in East Sussex

In my own mind a ginnel is more of a constructed route / passage whereas a snicket is like a quick cut through, maybe naturally formed?

Aye. Ginnel's are usually between walls, buildings and that. Snickets tend to be more rough paths.

Not in Fulford in the 1960s. The village snicket had walls and a paved path. East Riding thing, probably.

Going back upthread somewhat, I have literally only just found out that Christine McVie sang one of my all-time favourite songs, Chicken Shack’s version of ‘I Would Rather Go Blind’. Colour me stunned.

100%. A snicket requires your clothes to be torn by vegetation as you cut through.
