Trialists, Transfers & Speculation

Post by Supernorm »

There'll probably be a lot of trialists, transfers & speculative transfer news during the summer, I couldn't find any recent threads so thought I'd get one going, starting with this piece from the Setanta sports site.................

Leeds trial African duo

The Elland Road outfit face Carlisle United in the League One play-offs after losing their appeal against the 15-point deduction imposed at the start of the campaign.

Gary McAllister will be looking to take the Yorkshire side to Wembley and into The Championship after their alarming fall from grace.

Dominic Adiyah and Abraham Annan are currently with Hearts of Lion but are aiming to earn a move to England.

Adiyah, 22, is a goalscoring midfielder while Annan usually operates on the wing.

Meanwhile, top scorer Jermaine Beckford is expected to recover from an ankle injury in time to face Carlisle on Monday.

I agree, but will the right wing racist bastards policy of workers being able to speak English to an acceptable level scupper the plans?

Its another go at stopping Leeds and fucking us up.!

i don't think so.

i don't think that that squad had more than one or two players who play in ghana, and certainly not for 'hearts of lion'.

these two guys will be 'internationals' in the same sense as those two argentinians we were supposedly looking at, many of these poorer countries [primarily in africa & south america] who have some good players but no money in their local leagues have a special class of 'international' game, which counts for a full cap & everything, but that only features players who ply their trade in the domestic league. it gives home fans the chance to see plenty of international games without upsetting too many european managers, & also arguably puts the better domestic-based players in a shop window of sorts.

i'd imagine. as you suggest, the ghana squad is excellent, with a couple of real stars & plenty of pretty good players.

that said, if junior agogo is a regular in their team then anything's possible i suppose...

Aye. Coming from 'Hearts of Lion' they haven't got a fucking hope. Singular Lion, multiple Hearts? What the fuck does that mean? Hearts of Lions possibly; even Heart of Lions I could live with, but not this bollocks.

Cathcart will either turn out to be a real feather in our cap, or become a major black eye.

Some guy claiming to be in the know told me that we were in for Hereford's goalkeeper. I have a really bad attention span and didn't catch his name - the goalie or the bloke in the know.
The only thing we knew for sure about Henry Porter was that his name wasn't Henry Porter.

If by Hereford's keeper you mean Wayne 'Superman' Brown it would an interesting singing, he is a bit of a cult hero amongst Hereford fans, hence the nickname. He is capable of world-class saves yet also sunday-league howlers so it would be a bit of a gamble!

I seen the Cathcart article a couple of days ago and e-mailed it to a mate of mine who's an avid Northern Ireland fan, he says Cathcart's a real gem but didn't think we'd get him, there's a lot of interest in the lad from lower prem and championship teams.

According to the observer Leeds are poised to sign 28yr old Liechstenstein captain Martin Stocklasa on a bosman free from Dynamo Dresden, he's a 6'3 centreback, the Oberver also says we are gonna make Alan Sheehan's move a permanent one.

8ballali mentioned this lad in an earlier posting, the Swansea fans are getting anxious and fervently discussing this in their chatrooms, here's an article I picked up on Newsnow from 'planetswans' site.

Leeds Rumoured Interest In Swans Midfielder
May 17 2008 07:08 by Mark Rowlands
Swansea City's Andy Robinson is being constantly rumoured to be thinking over a move to Leeds United.

And whilst these reports are just rumours and "heard from a friends friend" then it does add weight to the reasoning behind why Roberto gave a deadline that expires two days before the play off final.

Newspapers in South Wales have reported 'substantial' and 'double your money' offers made my the Swans to Robinson who is still stalling over his new deal but other rumours flying around on the web sites and in discussions elsewhere suggest that Leeds have offered a far greater sum for Robinson which could prove to be the delay in getting the deal signed.

Both Swansea City and the player have expressed their desire to get the deal completed and it is almost mirroring the activities of two years ago when Robinson signed his last deal with the Swans.

There has been nothing substantiated at either end regards the Leeds rumour but there have been posts on the Planet Swans forum to suggest that it has come from the player himself or others have claimed to have it from "upon high in the club" The stories have escalated to Robbo being offered anywhere between £8k and £12k per week to make the move to the League One play off finalists.

As with any move like this it has to be an agonising one for the player himself. On one hand he has a side that gave him his big break and where he has played - and succeeded - for five years with the guarantee of Championship football next season. But you also have a side that appear to be playing hardball and have made their maximum offer. In the yellow corner you have one of the country's best supported sides who have reached the play off final despite a 15 point deduction at the start of the season. You also have the added carrott of more money which - as many would testify - is not always easy to turn down.

It is clear that if there is anything in the Leeds rumours then that could well be why the deadline has been set for before the play off final purely to make the player decide on where he wants to play rather than letting the result of where Leeds will play next season dictate that.

It's going to be an interesting week again in South Wales as the latest contract chat plays out it's course and fans of potentially both Swansea and Leeds sit back and wait to see what develops.

Well I'm still waiting for Lucas to point a few South African lads our way. He loved it at Leeds, is a true ER legend, and it would be nice to see him do his bit to help us back up where we belong.

Seems we've pinched Swansea's best player, their fans are really pissed off!!

Although not officially announced on the OS, the BBC and others are reporting this story.
AFTER prolonged wrangling over a new contract, Swansea City midfielder Andy Robinson has finally decided to leave the club to join League One side Leeds United.

Rumours about a possible switch to Leeds were realised today with an official announcement from the club that Robbo has made the bold decision ahead of Leeds' play-off final on the weekend.

Robbo had hoped to give a decision on Monday after the play-off final, but Martinez & Co insisted that the player made a decision within the original ten day deadline which ended yesterday.

Had Robinson accepted Swansea's new contract he would have been the highest paid player in the club's history.

Robbo's stalling has quite rightly seen the club force his hand and with the decision he has effectively gambled his future on 90 minutes of football.

A win will see Leeds with Robinson in the Championship next season squaring up against Swansea City at the Liberty.

A loss will see the him languish for yet another season in League One.
