Yeah, I thought it was good and I like Freeman. However, it was unremittingly grim - or 'Liverpool', as it is known - and I don't know if I want grim/mad/druggy for six episodes. Maybe not just now.

E2A: Do coppers/responders really do this shit by themselves? I thought they always worked in pairs.

I suppose I just thought it was a lot better than that shite last night, so I’ll stick with it.

Spoiler!
Are we thinking we’re heading towards some sort of going postal scenario?

Watched the first episode of the responder last night after ploughing through the last stay close. Enjoyed it. Stay close was fucking stupid by the end.
Spoiler!

Spoiler!
Coming towards the end of Ep1 it was obvious someone was about to die and you knew it wasn’t McClure because the series trailers had clips of her doing crucial stuff in other locations. My money was on the young lad.

@ Eric. Yes. In a major way.

In vaguely related (?) news (?), many years my sons godmother, while my flat mate, pulled Ian Hart (without an E) at the Earl of Lonsdale pub in Portobello.

Takes his morning coffee white with two, as I recall. Doesn’t much like conversation either, but there you go.

Had to google him because I didn't know his name.

Looking at photos, I assume he's bewigged in Responder? Funny, because it looks like someone in costume said, 'How can we make him look more like the scalliest scally who ever lived? I know, do you think Harry Enfield would still have those wigs?'

Calm down, lad

Have to wonder if Disney have seen the lukewarm response to TBOBF and stuck what was going to be the first episode of the next season of The Mandalorian into the middle of this series instead. That episode certainly posed a lot of questions.

I did wonder that but I suspect it's more about them not wanting to have the 2 series out at the same time and needing to address certain things before he rocks up properly in TBOBF.

Spoiler!
Ability to wield the dark saber, loss of his spear, what he's been doing with himself in general since Grogu went to Jedi school, what he's flying around in these days.

Regardless, it was a surprise it took the full episode, especially when there's only 2 episodes left of the series now and not all that much happening in the first 4.

As much as it’s still a novelty to see Amy Sedaris in Star Wars, fucking hell did that episode drag once Mando got to Tatooine.

Finished Responder.

Decent, overall.

Spoiler!
In the middle, episode 3’s a bit shit. The drug gang stuff gets a bit silly and convoluted. Ending was quite good but the blatant segue towards series 2 was a bit naff. E2A the coercive control thing around the female cop was really good I thought - challenged a whole load of stuff about power and 'well, why can't you just leave?'

The Responder is absolute class.
Freeman showing chops I never knew he had, just outstanding. There is one sequence where the camera has his face in a tight shot, for about 90 seconds, no speaking, no gurning but his face speaks volumes.
Everybody else very decent, special shout out to the lass who played Casey.
Writer aced it from the start, great characters, story and beautiful pacing.
Much better than Line of Duty for me.

The BBC do this kind of thing so well.
Mirrors and copulation are abominable, since they both multiply the numbers of men.

Well. I thought it was good. Apparently the bloke who wrote it was an ex-cop who’d got a mentoring thing with Jimmy McGovern (it shows). Freeman was good as was his sidekick, but:

Spoiler!
The Ray Mullin side story was just ridiculous, most of the time (and the actor playing him knew it) and Mrs Doctor veering from evil psychotic drug lord to hapless victim of family circumstances was utterly incoherent.

But for a first time writer, solid first attempt.

All agreed, I also saw on the credits that Freeman helped produce the show.

Just watched the first one. I quite like Freeman anyway but previously if have said he knows his (narrow) range and takes roles within it. The Scouse scent seems pretty good too me, very Adam Forshaw.

Gomorra turned to shit.
Bloody shame because the first two seasons were genuinely brilliant.

Interesting thing on Sky Arts about the US graphic artist Shepard Fairey. Most exciting factoid so far: his dad’s name is Strait Fairey. I shit you not.
